Trump Keeps Promise, Wishes America & World A ‘Merry Christmas’ At Epic Ceremony

With the Christmas season in full swing now that Thanksgiving is over, many liberals across the country are in a sour mood. Even though the holiday has long been taken over by Santa Clause and consumerism, many folks are still upset at the Christian roots of the season.

Such a troubling sentiment is what’s behind the Left’s drive to eradicate the words “Merry Christmas!” altogether, replacing them with the all-inclusive, politically correct “Happy Holidays.” However, with Trump in office, Christians have been granted a temporary reprieve in the War on Christmas, at least when it comes to the government’s crackdown on it. During his campaign, Trump was adamant that if he was elected, “Merry Christmas” would once again become the norm, and this week he started making good on that promise by kicking off the festivities in Washington.

As reported at the New York Post, Christmas is officially underway in Washington, as Trump and First Lady Melania lit up the National Christmas Tree Thursday evening while wishing the country “a Merry Christmas” — fulfilling a campaign pledge.

Lighting up the tree is a tradition for presidents, but it’s been a while since we had someone in office that unabashedly used the seemingly taboo words with such effect.

Today’s a day that I’ve been looking very much forward to all year long,” said Trump. “And now, as the president of the United States, it’s my tremendous honor to finally wish America and the world a very merry Christmas.”

While filling up stadiums across the country during the presidential election, Trump promised that if he were elected, folks would start saying “Merry Christmas again.” While leftists are still intent on minimizing everything Christian about Christmas, there’s a feeling that it’s more okay to use the words than it has been in a while.

The Christmas tree lighting included a host of celebrities and politicians, including Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, who introduced Trump and called him “a man who loves our parks, loves our military, and loves our country. The man who brought ‘Merry Christmas’ back to our nation’s capital — and you did, sir.”

While speaking from behind a bullet-proof glass enclosure, Trump compared himself to President Ulysses S. Grant, who signed legislation making Christmas a federal holiday. This year’s event marks the 95th annual Christmas Tree Lighting, which was a tradition started by President Coolidge in 1923. Hopefully, President Trump will help ensure that we’ll still be celebrating Christmas in the decades ahead.
